Congrats for noticing the Euros treat their lunch hours and their coffee time differently! It's one of the first things I noticed when I was finally able to travel. Waiters let you take your time, and the basics--espresso/coffee, bread, simple desserts-- are superb. Rome, Paris, Madrid, Berlin (the city, not your friend) are all places with a deep cafe culture where people really look forward to schmoozing with friends. Great socializing, no media.
