Erright, I've heard this kind of remark from mangers/CEOs before. If he REALLY felt bad or sorry, the way this WAS SHOWN in the before times is as follows. You get a decent severance package -- minimally 2 weeks pay for each year. Then HR would inform you you'll get a positive reference in your job hunt. And finally they may even try to reach out to contacts to find another position for you.

This is no longer the case. Having been through and knowing others who’ve been through something similar, it’s usually a very brief email or an HR bot informing you "blah business reasons blah", 2 weeks severance, and if you want to get stored up vacation pay you’ll have to re-confirm your NDA and non-compete agreements.

Yeah, I agree with your response to the new social contract between employer and employee. Remember: it's a team, not a family.
