Groups like the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys provide an "exit strategy" from a middle class life that has failed too many. For Dominic Pezzola, Kelly Meggs, Jessica Watkins, et al., their stuck-in-the-middle existence is not enjoyable, or profitable enough. They experience a loss of status compared to those in sexier industries like tech or that have some organization, such as a union, representing them. Middle class small or solo business owners have always been a source of boots on the ground for fascists, and of course for the Nazis with the SA. Yeah, the thrill of violence is a lure for young men in particular.
