If you're so motivated, give "They Thought They were Free" a read. It's a classic look at the nice Germans. Actually they weren't that nice. Too many Germans didn't think much of participating in burning down a synagogue or cracking skulls, and then going back to their middle class jobs. Kind of like the J6 crowd--"they're good people" their neighbors will tell you.
