There's always been "bullshit jobs". I think the term doesn't quite fit the Microsoft Teams consultant or the Social Media strategist or SEO expert. These are highly-specialized SUPPORT jobs that require some skills but their relationship to the final product is unclear or very indirect. I've depended on people who wangled Hubspot or some other biz software and I remember that I really needed them. I worked at very profitable tech companies who could afford these and other strange skills --- like data analyst, or VP of customer happiness. Not saying these jobs are rewarding.
You want to talk about bullshit-low status jobs? I had a summer job putting a sprocket thingie into a machine that would then drill holes in the part, which I then removed . I did that like 100 or so times a day. The foremen who had real machine-tool skills would look at the work to see the holes lined up. We got to talking, and he told me 'Don't go into machine shop work' and recommended getting a job at a bank or other large company. ;-)
